Downloaded Eclipse

I’ve just started using Eclipse for developing with Java. I plan on using Eclipse for taking advantage of what GWT (Google Web Toolkit) has to offer. I’m used to only using a text editor for editing and creating java source code. I’ve messed around with Netbeans a little, but not as much as just using a text editor. I use Textpad, mainly because of it’s integration with Java.

It’s incredibly easy to compile Java source code using Textpad. Just press CTRL + 1. To run the resulting compiled Java bytecode is easy; just press CTRL + 2.

I want to start using a full-fledged IDE, and I’ve heard good things about Eclipse, which is Google’s IDE of choice. It has a higher learning curve, but it’s highly customizable.

I wish there was a program out there that wasn’t as complicated as a full IDE, which is more than I need at my skill level. If there was a program that had the same text editing capabilities as an IDE, but acted more like a text editor, that would be great. I just don’t like the high learning curve of Eclipse, but I’ll get the hang of it.
