The ultimate Dream Theater box set is about to be released.  This is the most comprehensive collectors edition of an album release I’ve ever seen any band offer.

I can’t believe how much stuff they’re packing into this thing.  Buyers get the 3-cd deluxe edition, which includes the album itself, instrumental mixes of the album, and 6 newly-recorded cover songs.  For the audiophiles, it includes 2 LPs of the album with exclusive artwork.

The box set also includes a “Producer’s Edition” disc, which is a disc of the isolated tracks of each instrument for the entire album.  So if I wanted to learn one of John Petrucci’s crazy riffs, I have access to the isolated guitar track.  Or fans can make up their own mixes of the songs.  That is amazing, and I don’t think that’s ever been offered from a mainstream band before, excluding Nine Inch Nails.

100 of these special box sets include a “silver ticket” which is good for one free ticket to any Dream Theater concert in this forthcoming tour.

If you don’t want all that extra stuff, you can buy just the 3-CD edition or the double LP edition.  I can’t wait until this album comes out.  I’m not sure if I’ll be buying this extra-special, crazy-insane, super duper box set, but I do think it’s cool.  If you’re a Dream Theater die hard fan, chances are that you preordered your copy already.
